Gobble Gobble..Stop Worrying!!! How to Enjoy Your Thanksgiving

Keep Calm and GOBBLE On copy Sorry for being quiet but my graduate courses are killing me! Not only is the semester coming to a close but I am also trying to prepare for my thesis that starts next semester! AH!! Good thing Thanksgiving is this week! Now I have been getting some emails lately about what I should tell you all to do for Thanksgiving. How about enjoy it? 

 I know, the average person will consume over 4,500 on Thanksgiving. That is a lot! BUT..one day will not ruin your life style. People are always asking me, “What do you do?” or “What did you do last year?” My Mom cooked the meal and we ate! Yes, we do things a little differently such as fat free gravy or more veggies but last year I still ate turkey, mash potatoes and pie. I still also consumed some adult beverages as well. The idea of one day should not stress you out. You should enjoy the day with your family and then the next day go back to normal. People have high anxiety of the holidays but I think one day is not bad. I always complain about the summer because there are more BBQ and events. Thanksgiving is only one day. ENJOY IT!

 If you wish for some advice then here is what I will say:

1.) Do not pile things onto your plate.

2.) Do not drown your food in gravy or butter

3.) Try to plan your plate accordingly. You should have more veggies on your plate and some protein/crabs.

4.) If you wish to go for seconds..Pick two/three things you loved and eat them. Why make a whole plate again? If you loved that turkey then have some more. If you loved Grandmom’s corn bread then go ahead. Do not pile everything on again.

5.) Drink water. If you wish to have adult beverages that is fine but drink water during the meal. Also, coffee or tea is great if offered.

6.) Small piece of dessert. Do not do seconds.

8.) Try to work out before your big meal. I know I am going to the gym before dinner and you should too!

9.) Still eat before dinner. You do not want to go starving. It will make you eat more.

10.) Eat slowly. Take small bites. It will fill you up faster.

Enjoy the day!!! Just enjoy being with your family and be happy to even be alive. One day will not ruin everything. Get back on track on Friday. I promise it will be okay!

Cascadian Farm Berry Cobbler Granola

I found a new love for granola and mixing it in my yogurt. I decided to try this product today because I was tired of just eating my yogurt plain. It is 1/2 a cup for 5 Weight Watcher points but I did not even use that much which was great. The taste was delicious. I am now a huge fan of granola in my yogurt. I have two other types of granola and I can not wait to try them in my Greek yogurt. If you enjoy using granola in anyway I do suggest you buying this product. Yummy!

I Love Hungry Girl!

This is a very late night post as I look at my clock at it is one in the morning..Anyway, my Mom and I are obsessed with Hungry Girl. If you are not aware of who Hungry Girl is you are missing out. Lisa Lillien is the creator of Hungry Girl and she comes up with awesome recipes that are a healthier option. If you find her recipes you will notice that the recipes online cater to Weight Watcher points. It will tell you the points. If you buy her books they will not tell you the point value but it is very easy to figure this out. My Mom makes a lot of recipes by her and we only had one bad meal. We tried to make waffle tacos and it did not work out.

I am always looking at recipes. I make a lot of her breakfast food. I made Smore’s oatmeal and an omelet in a cup. I am trying to learn how to cook more meals on my own but since my Mom cooks a lot I am lazy..I will not lie to you all. I am trying though! Hungry Girl makes the recipes very easy to understand and seems like it is not a lot of work.

Now I am researching her website because Brian’s Mom gave me an eggplant from her garden and I am trying to figure out something to do with it.  I found this recipe for a Eggplant-Bottomed Pizza and it looks yummy.

It is only only 3 weight watcher points but it only makes two. The eggplant is a good size but it is not that big. I do like the idea of this recipe though. I also found a Eggplant Stir-Fry but that only serves one person. I like this recipe because if you are in the mood for Chinese this is a healthy choice rather then order high fattening Chinese take out.

I was also looking at alcoholic beverages because on Sept 1st my family is having a BBQ. I was thinking of making a awesome drink but have it at low points as well. I found this Pineapple-tini that looks good. Love pineapples and this sounds like an awesome tropical end of summer drink for me.

This adults-only drink is sunshine in a glass! And apparently, sunshine tastes delicious…

Ingredients:
3 oz. pineapple juice
1 1/2 oz. pineapple rum
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
2 oz. club soda
Optional garnish: pineapple wedge

Directions:
Pour pineapple juice, rum, and lemon juice into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well.

Add soda to the shaker and stir (don’t shake!). Strain into a large martini glass, and enjoy!

MAKES 1 SERVING

I also found a Fruitylicious Margarita and this sounds good because I love Margarita’s. If anyone knows me a margarita is my drink of choice because I love tequila. So when I found this drink recipe I got a little excited.

HG’s Fruitylicious Margarita
(Entire recipe: 105 calories, 0g fat, 15mg sodium, 3g carbs, 0g fiber, 0.5g sugars, 0g protein – PointsPlus®value 4*)

 This one’s crazy delicious, customizable and guilt-free to boot!

Ingredients:

*1.5 oz. tequila

5 oz. SoBe LEAN; Diet Mango Melon, Energy Diet Citrus, or Diet Cranberry Grapefruit

1 oz. lime juice

Optional: lime slice for garnish and salt or no-calorie sweetener for rim of glass

Directions:

If you like, wet the glass rim with juice from a lime and dunk it into a dish of salt or sweetener.  For frozen sips, combine all ingredients in a blender with 1 cup crushed ice, and blend on high until well mixed.  Or, mix ingredients well and serve over ice.  If desired, garnish with a lime wedge.  Serves 1!

Anyway, enough of me cluttering up the blog with recipes but I felt I should have shared a few. Hungry Girl  is awesome and you should check her out. She has books and a TV show on The Food Network. I am not sure if she has any new episodes but I know the reruns do show sometimes. Also, her husband is Dan Schneider and he created shows like All That, Kenan and Kel, The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh, Icarly, Victorious, and Sam & Cat. How awesome is that? Check her out and enjoy her recipes. I love healthy cooking. It makes counting Weight Watcher points so much easier!
