How to Survive Thanksgiving When Losing Weight

Keep Calm and GOBBLE On copy

Here we are again. The Holiday season. The time of year everyone goes absolutely crazy with eating. Well, I am with you this year. I have been struggling to keep track and eat clean lately. This holiday season frightens me. I need to stop thinking negatively. If we keep our minds in the right state and keep our confidence up we can accomplish anything.

The average person will consume over 4,500 on Thanksgiving. That is a lot! BUT..one day will not ruin your life style. People are always asking me, “What do you do?” or “What did you do last year?” My Mom cooked the meal and we ate! Yes, we do things a little differently such as fat free gravy or more veggies but last year I still ate turkey, mash potatoes and pie. I still also consumed some adult beverages as well. The idea of one day should not stress you out. You should enjoy the day with your family and then the next day go back to normal. People have high anxiety of the holidays but I think one day is not bad. I always complain about the summer because there are more BBQ and events. Thanksgiving is only one day. ENJOY IT!

Thanksgiving is this Thursday and I feel I should give my list once again to keep us all on track!:

1.) Do not pile things onto your plate.

2.) Do not drown your food in gravy or butter

3.) Try to plan your plate accordingly. You should have more veggies on your plate and some protein/crabs.

4.) If you wish to go for seconds..Pick two/three things you loved and eat them. Why make a whole plate again? If you loved that turkey then have some more. If you loved Grandmom’s corn bread then go ahead. Do not pile everything on again.

5.) Drink water. If you wish to have adult beverages that is fine but drink water during the meal. Also, coffee or tea is great if offered.

6.) Small piece of dessert. Do not do seconds.

8.) Try to work out before your big meal. I am taking a morning spin class.

9.) Still eat before dinner. You do not want to go starving. It will make you eat more.

10.) Eat slowly. Take small bites. It will fill you up faster.

Enjoy the day!!! Just enjoy being with your family and be happy to even be alive. One day will not ruin everything. Get back on track on Friday. I promise it will be okay!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!

I Lost 30 lbs in 2013! What Will 2014 Bring?

NEWYEARS

Happy New Year, everyone! As I stated before, 2013 was my year. I am excited to see what 2014 has to bring. This whole year I lost 30 lbs but 80 lbs overall. That 30 lbs has truly helped me a lot! I am going to continue on doing what I have been doing because it is working.

I do not believe in New Years Revolutions because they seem to be really big picture goals. Everyone always wants to lose weight but most people have a huge expectation in their head when they starts. When they decide to lose weight they keep this big number of what they want to lose and this is why they fail. Maybe instead of saying you wish to lose twenty pounds..Say you will eat healthy or go to the gym three times a week. Please keep in mind that a life style change will become a huge change but I feel you should start off small. That is my advice to everyone with the NYR.

For me..I need to get back on track because the holidays was filled of food and drinking. The only thing I was doing right was working out everyday but Christmas.  So for 2014 I will get back to writing down everything I consume, track my Weight Watcher points better and stop snacking/drinking alcohol. I really need to calm down with the snacking and drinking. I feel if I get back on track with this then my body will go back to feeling how it was before the holidays.

I also would like to continue to weigh my self only once a month. Not worrying about the scale has done wonders on me because I am not stressed out about the number on that scale. My goal this year is to not worry about the weight loss but the muscle I gain. I am going to gain weight this year but I wish to sculpt my body the way I want it to be.

Finally, rather then worrying about weight loss or muscle gain I wish to try new things. I have already done this last year but I feel like trying new things keep your life fresh and exciting. I climbed a water fall in Jamaica and ran in a 5K last year. Who knows what will happen this year? I still have a bucket list with many interesting and exciting things I have no done yet. Speaking of the bucket list..I am pretty sure I can gross things off on it. Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I hope this year is a success for everyone. Make the best of it!

Merry Fitness and Have A Happy New Rear

Season’s greetings on my new laptop that will not break down on me or explode while using. I am great full for my new laptop because I have my thesis development coming up this semester and I really needed a laptop that would function very well for all my research and writing. I did receive my grades this semester and all my hard work paid off. I am very pleased.

This Christmas was a little rough with all the junk and high fatty foods…and drinking. Sunday is m family Christmas. It is a ugly Christmas sweater theme and I have a awesome outfit planned..but since it is families getting together then there will be bad food. Then Brian and I are going out for NYE with a couple of people. We are going to a catering hall, dressing up, drinking, dancing and going to have a blast. I am just nervous about all these new events. I really don’t know how my body is going to be after all this. All I can do is work out and try to make the right choices. I want to look awesome for NYE and I plan on going out tomorrow for the most amazing NYE dress. I am just afraid nothing is going to fit me. I wanted to buy something that was more fitted to my body but I may go for something that flows. I am not sure.

So..how was everyone’s Christmas? Did anyone receive anything that was for health or fitness? I really did not get anything actually. I did not ask for anything for Christmas though..so I can not complain. I did get two Biggest Loser books that are cook books and what not…So that will be cool to read. I also did get Just Dance for the Wii. I totally forgot about that video game and it was a way I used to get my work outs. I am excited to play that game. Did anyone receive anything good? I really need new sneakers and sport bras..but I need to buy them on my own. Brian did buy me a pair of UGGS..but that has nothing to do with fitness! haha!

I love the holidays so much. I wish fatty foods was something that did not have to be around but sometimes you just have to take a breath and enjoy the things around you. I decided to show a picture of me from Christmas EVE 2012 and Christmas EVE this year. Have a great day, guys!!

First Weigh In…I FORGOT!!

Yes, my first monthly weigh in was on Dec 6..and yes I forgot to weigh in! I was in the middle of eating my breakfast and forgot to step on that scale! I am so used to not stepping on the scale that I totally forgot. I guess this proved that I am more then a number. Also, it proved that I am less stressed out due to my weight. I weighed myself later that day but it was at my gyms scale. It said I gained a pound. Then when I came home after my work out it said I gained two pounds. So either I gained a pound in the month or I stayed the same. I am really not upset by this because I know Thanksgiving happened but also I notice a difference with my body. My arms and stomach look different to me. I have been trying all these new classes at my gym that I am never bored. Tomorrow I am going to get my butt kicked by my trainer. I hope he gives me a cool new work out routine to try. Right now i feel like I am in a good place. I feel like sculpting my body is the way to go.

This semester is coming to a close..THANK GOD! This semester went by so quickly but was pretty crazy. Going to school three days a week was rough. Also, writing a response paper all the time was so not cool. My goal is not to snack/over eat due to stress with school. I am going to try very hard to be good leading up to the end. I will not wait until the last minute to write my papers. I am almost done one. I have another to start. Also, my thesis proposal which seems like will never happen due to conflicts with the professors.  Speaking of that..I literally just sent an email to the head of the thesis writing due to this sentence.

Keep_Calm_Its_Christmas With all this stress of graduate work, Christmas is literally around the corner as well! So much stress but fun. I have purchased most of my gifts due to Black Friday but I still need to buy a couple of more things. The junk food during this holiday season is crazy too. I have to bake something for a cookie swap at a graduate school event. I also want to bake cup cakes for my first graders I watch during lunch. Lots of treats! Then who knows what else to follow. I am training hard for this holiday season because for Christmas and NYE..it is me not caring. I want to live! Well, enough with my rambling. I need to finish homework.

Gobble Gobble..Stop Worrying!!! How to Enjoy Your Thanksgiving

Keep Calm and GOBBLE On copy Sorry for being quiet but my graduate courses are killing me! Not only is the semester coming to a close but I am also trying to prepare for my thesis that starts next semester! AH!! Good thing Thanksgiving is this week! Now I have been getting some emails lately about what I should tell you all to do for Thanksgiving. How about enjoy it?

I know, the average person will consume over 4,500 on Thanksgiving. That is a lot! BUT..one day will not ruin your life style. People are always asking me, “What do you do?” or “What did you do last year?” My Mom cooked the meal and we ate! People have high anxiety of the holidays but I think one day is not bad. I always complain about the summer because there are more BBQ and events. Thanksgiving is only one day. ENJOY IT!

If you wish for some advice then here is what I will say:

1.) Do not pile things onto your plate.

2.) Do not drown your food in gravy or butter

3.) Try to plan your plate accordingly. You should have more veggies on your plate and some protein/crabs.

4.) If you wish to go for seconds..Pick two/three things you loved and eat them. Why make a whole plate again? If you loved that turkey then have some more. If you loved Grandmom’s corn bread then go ahead. Do not pile everything on again.

10.) Eat slowly. Take small bites. It will fill you up faster.

Enjoy the day!!! Just enjoy being with your family and be happy to even be alive. One day will not ruin everything. Get back on track on Friday. I promise it will be okay!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!

They Have a 5K for Everything: The Ugly Sweater 5K.

They really do have a 5K  for everything.  If you feel like running a normal 5K then go to the local city and run that 5K. If you want people to throw color at you or run in the dark with glow sticks then be my guest! I did The Color Run back in July with my family. It was a lot of fun and it was a quirky way to move your body. Most kids or adults..would run a normal 5K but if color is being thrown at you then it just makes it fun!

Then I came across this 5K on a Groupon..It is called The Ugly Sweater 5K. I had to chuckle out loud to this because it is so funny the 5K’s they come up with. The silly thing is I really want to do it! It is happening December 7th in Philadelphia. I think it sounds fun. The charity seems to be for Toys For Tots and it is a great way to kick off the Christmas spirit. Who does not want to wear a ugly Christmas sweater and go for a run? Never mind..Do not answer that. Anyway, I think I am going to do it. Not 100% yet. I need to train for it. I am so out of shape with my running that I am rusty on my skills. I do have a long time to train for this and it is perfect. I will need to go to Good Will and get my sweater!

Here is the website if you are interested. Maybe it is in a location near you. I never heard of this 5K before and I thought I should share! =D
